Arriving at the Grottos area of the Upper Roaring Fork near Aspen Colorado, my first steps are usually towards the cataracts and the ice caves. On this morning I headed to the peaceful section of the river instead. The early morning sun was highlighting the river above and the rock outcrops that border. After several shots I turned to find the trees along the bank casting their color into the river.

I have photographed the Ice Caves near the Grottos of the upper Roaring Fork from above several times. I found interesting images mixing light with the rock and vegetation and even the entrance into the caves from the upstream side. Until this trip, I had never ventured inside. I don’t know why.
