				Kachemak Bay on the east side of The Homer Spit lies somewhat protected from the more volatile west side. Towards the base of the Spit, at low tide, a great expanse of the bay loses most surface water leaving a large area of "mud" and other debris exposed. Thus the name Mud Bay. Still, the wet mud combined with the incredible light often found over Kachemak Bay and Kachemak Bay State Park (located on the south side of the bay) can have interesting patterns and reflections.
