SOMEWHERE ON A RIVER

DESTINATION-COLORADO   McInnis Canyon
WEATHER

McInnis Canyon Recreational Area is a network of trails in the foothills above Fruita, Colorado. The numerous routes are well marked with many possibilities of loop and out & back hikes. Fall, Winter, and Spring visits are preferred for hiking as Summer can get fairly hot. For those that live nearby, early and late hours during the summer are great for experiencing this high desert region.

The area is near Colorado National Monument and the dominant rock type is sandstone with some granite–gneiss–schist rock formations in limited locations. It borders the Colorado River along the west boundaries providing yet another means of transportaion to its furthest reaches. There are longer hikes than those I've taken with destinations such as Rattlesnake Canyon and Horsethief Basin. Hopefully one of these days I will make an extended trip into the area. Take plenty of water no matter what season you visit.
