I found myself sitting at the overlook on Skyline Drive in Homer waiting for the lunar eclipse well beyond the time it was suppose to happen. The eclipse must have occured before the moon rose above the Kenai Mountains and was out of sight. Still, knowing it was a full moon, I decided to wait for it to show. When it did come up over Wosnesenski Glacier, the color of its illumination was intense. I wasn't sure this was a result of the lingering eclipse or a hazy sky but it was well worth the wait. The moon stayed low in the sky and quickly traveled across the horizon. In a short bit, its reflection on the bay aligned with the end of the Spit. Good decision to wait and a good time to call it a night. |
